In late 2019 Laura Pettit decided that it was time to for all the things she had dreamed of but couldn’t do while running the family restaurant.
In 1946, George Foster introduced the first Fosters Freeze in Inglewood California. Fosters opened a franchise in Carpinteria in 1961 and Laura’s father, Dave Petit, was involved with the Carpinteria franchise since 1964, eventually buying it in 1975 followed by the building in 1976. Dave’s daughter Laura took over the operation in 2015. The iconic restaurant was the go-to spot for generations, serving cheeseburgers, chili fries and soft serve ice cream cones while creating fun memories for locals and visitors.
Laura trusted Blake Andrews of Presidio Real Estate to help shift her from the restaurant world into her new life. After reviewing the several business options that Andrew’s put forth, she asked him to find just the right fit to transition the owner-occupied building to an operator that represented the values and clientele the Petit family had so carefully “fostered” for nearly 50 years. After generating several interested parties within a short time, Laura decided to lease long-term to The Good Plow, a farm to table concept.
After a half century of treasured memories—and around a million shakes!—Foster’s closed their doors for the last time on August 23rd 2020. Pettit said that “It was a pleasure working with Presidio Real Estate. Blake understood our needs and figured out an answer quickly. The transition from where we were to where we wanted to be was seamless.”
